Littlehampton is a beautiful town with an unspoilt beach, 20 minutes from Chichester, 30 minutes from Brighton and 90 minutes from London. We've got everything here you might need for a day or a weekend away at the seaside from dodgems and amusements at Harbour Park (www.harbourpark.com) to boating lakes, pretty parks and a nature reserve with rare birds, plants and fossils at West Beach. West Beach is an area of Special Scientific Interest and is a great place for a walk after a long relaxing lunch at The East Beach Cafe.
If you're feeling more energetic, there are tennis courts with racket hire, adventure golf and a good pitch and putt course, all open year round. Bring a cricket set or a kite and play on the green behind the beach, or even try your hand at kitesurfing (www.air-head.com) - we hold the British Kitesurfing Championships in front of The East Beach Cafe every year www.littlehamptonextreme.org.uk
Outside Littlehampton, the South Downs are a ten minute drive and are great for bike rides or long walks www.visitsouthdowns.com - Amberley village is worth a stop, it's a very pretty, utterly English village.
Arundel is 4 miles away and is the home of Arundel Castle (www.arundelcastle.org), the spectacular seat of the Duke of Norfolk, as well as Arundel Cathedral (www.arundelcathedral.org). There are also loads of pretty antique shops, bookshops and delis as well as a farmers' market on the 3rd Saturday of every month from 9am-1pm.
Ford Market (www.fordairfieldmarket.co.uk) at the airfield in Ford on Saturday is one of the best car boot sales in the South East, with brilliant bric-a-brac - but you've got to get there before 9am to catch the bargains!
The city of Chichester is 20 mins away and has lovely shops, as well as the renowned Festival Theatre (www.cft.org.uk) and the wonderful Pallant Gallery (www.pallant.org.uk)
Fishbourne Roman Palace just outside Chichester was built in AD75 and has the largest collection of in situ mosaics in Britain as well as a reconstructed Roman garden. Bignor Roman Palace in Pulborough also has some very fine mosaics. Find information about both at www.romansinsussex.co.uk
Also within 20 minutes' drive from Littlehampton is Goodwood House, where the you can visit the Festival of Speed and Glorious Goodwood horse racing (www.goodwood.co.uk), and the Cass Sculpture Foundation, a wonderful outdoor museum dedicated to the promotion of 21st Century British sculpture (www.sculpture.org.uk)
